Word Drawings - Dec/14 through early Jan/15

I've had a good run with the word sketchbook of late. During the past several weeks, it seemed like I would rather draw in this book, rather than my regular sketchbook. Preceding and over the holidays, I just didn't feel all that "funny". I felt more comfortable free associating with words and design rather than laboring over humorous stuff, that didn't seem to be flowing. Here are the word drawings in the order that they were done.

Not Withstanding - 12/5/14
Ill Fitting Suit
Punch Drunk - 12/19/14

Word Drawings - July-October - 2014

I continue to work on word drawings as the mood strikes me. I have done quite a few of these and lately I have had to be careful not to repeat myself both in the word content and how these drawings are constructed. I have been finding my mind going down familiar avenues and have to work to break free of that. Here's the latest batch.

Word Drawings - June and July - 2014

I've continued this series, fitting a word drawing in here and there in my morning drawing sessions. I've almost completed an entire book of these drawing. As you may recall, this series was a reaction to the disappointment of purchasing several of these books with inferior paper. Whole story here. One down, two to go! Anyway, here is the latest installment.

Word Drawings - late May - early June - 2014

I took a little respite from word drawings in March, but lately I've had the notion to continue. These drawing develop very organically. They start with a word or phrase and the ensuing design and subsequent verbiage develop from there. I've long been intrigued with Adolph Gottlieb's pictographs and the fact that each mark he made on the canvas was a reaction to the last mark. Even though these drawing are very different, I try to operate in that spirit. So here's the latest batch, ink blobs and all.
Nervous Laughter
Guided Missletoe
Monty Pylon
Hogwash
Age of Unreason
Sneeches on the Beaches

Sketchbook Word Drawings - Jan / 2014

I have a new morning routine in the studio. As soon as my computer business (email, sports scores, silly kitten videos) is completed I turn my computer off. So now my morning meditation  and drawing sessions are not only humless, but more importantly, less interrupted by the beeping of incoming emails. I have learned that I CANNOT disregard unread emails and because of this my creative time was constantly being compromised. So in an effort to have a little more focus in my morning drawing session, the computer stays off. I have continued to work on sketchbook word drawing in the book that I had previously mentioned. Here's what transpired in it during the month of January.

Bitches Brew - January 2, 2014

Azimuth - January 21, 2014
New York, Yew Nork - January 22, 2014
Wee Willie Winkle - January 3, 2014
Lost in Space - January 24, 2014
Mojo - January 25, 2014
Pester - January 28, 2014

Simon Says - January 17, 2013
